Onake Obavva
This is the house of Onake Obavva at Chitradurga Fort in Karnataka. A little far away from her house is the spot where she single-handedly eliminated over a hundred soldiers of Hyder Ali with an onake, a pestle, in 1779. Ontisalaga Madakari Nayaka was then the Raja of Chitradurga. He defended his kingdom twice from the attacks of Hyder Ali. It was during Hyder Ali's third attack that Onake defended Chitradurga Fort for several hours.
After many days of trying to find an entry into the fort, Hyder Ali's soldiers could locate this secret narrow passage to the fort wherein only one soldier at a time could pop up and gain entry. Every time an enemy soldier popped up his head from this passage, Onake hit him. In a few hours, bodies of the dead soldiers piled up all around. Onake single-handedly defended Chitradurga Fort for several hours until she attained Veergati.
Onake Obavva was the wife of Kahale Mudda Hanuma, a guard of a watchtower at Chitradurga Fort. Engaged only in household chores and never trained in fighting, she could eliminate over a hundred of the enemy soldiers! That's love for the motherland and the power of Shakti!
The valor of Onake Obavva is described in detail in Chapter 42 in Book 2 of #SaffronSwords
